long time, no see It's been a while since I last posted, and for that I apologize! It's been a wild few months, but one thing is for sure- Bucks For Ducks has some exciting things coming up! Keep an eye out because they are on there way soon!
I started my freshman year at Marshall this semester and school has consumed a lot of my time. I've also been wrestling with various medical issues. Due to that combination, I have not been in the physical condition to organize or put on an event. So, the fall fundraiser has been put off until the coming spring. I'm heartbroken about this, but the good thing is that previous fundraisers have raised enough to were we are not lacking in Chemo Ducks! Yay! Make sure to keep an eye out at Cabell Huntington Hospital for more information, interviews, and papers regarding the fund. As the year comes to a close there will be more and more information about Bucks For Ducks circulating the hospital. Keep the fund, Foundation for the Tri-State, and HOOPS in your thoughts and prayers. We are all very excited and anxious to get back at doing what we are all about- giving hope! Much love, Ginny Blake The first Bucks For Ducks Fund for the Tristate event will have taken place a year ago in eight days. This time last year I was scrambling to tie loose ends. I was a mess x2038472; I was eager, nervous, and overwhelmed. At that time, I had no idea what the fund would come to mean to me and the impact it would have on others. All I knew was that I had fifths disease, couldn't move more than .3 miles per hour, and was couch bound attempting to organize an event while the clock was ticking. I had no idea that when I totaled up the money and I would discover that, with the communities help, the fund raised 7,000 dollars. That allowed us to order over 200 CHEMO DUCKS for the children receiving Chemotherapy at HOOPS. I had no clue I would be given the ever so humbling opportunity to hand out some of the Chemo Ducks to the pediatric oncology patients at HOOPS at their Christmas Party.
And I had absolutely no idea I would I discover I was a Distinguished finalist for the Spirit of the Prudential Awards and be able to share the news with my Papaw during one of his last days- one of my last and fondest memories with him. Flash forward to today where I am currently planning this years fundraising event. I sit here typing this on my laptop in total awe of what God has done. Time has flown. So much has happened in a single year and I couldn't be more thankful. All glory goes to God. A year ago today, I wasn't even sure if I could do it. And without the Lord, I couldn't have done it. He is the "promise maker, promise keeper. [He finishes] what he begins." GUESS WHAT? This Sunday is the start of a brand new Bucks For Ducks Fund fundraiser! Keep your eyes peeled for more information involving this fundraiser. It's been a while since you last heard from me, and for that I apologize! Since April I have graduated from Huntington High and received my schedule for classes at Marshall this fall. Life has been crazy and hectic, but it has been a wonderful ride. My heart is so thankful. It is especially thankful because without your love and support and the Lord's guidance, Bucks for Ducks Fund wouldn't be possible.
This fall brings forth the Bucks For Ducks Fund fundraising season. This September will mark one year from our first fundraiser- the Bucks for Ducks Walk/Community Night. Through that fundraiser and all of your help, the fund raised 7,000 dollars and purchased over 200 Chemo Ducks to help provide huggable hope to children receiving chemo at Hoops Family Children's Hospital at Cabell Huntington Hospital. I am extremely excited to see what this next year holds. My mind is flooded with ideas for the next few months, so make sure to stay updated! I will be trying to post much more frequently. Until then, please keep the fund in your prayers and thoughts. Love, Ginny. On March 27th, I received a Legislative Citation from the House of Delegates for The Bucks For Ducks Fund. Now I have one of my own just like my Papaw. I'm very honored, blessed, and missing him dearly. Thanks to all who have supported me and the charity. It means a lot to me. Also, did you know that due to Bucks For Ducks Fund, Cabell Huntington Hospital is the first hospital in West Virginia to be affiliated with Chemo Duck (48 out of the 50 states have hospitals affiliated? We were the 48th.) Honored, blessed, and thankful. This time last year I had no idea the project would have helped 200+ kids or become an official charity which is the first in West Virginia to supply Chemo Ducks.
ATTENTION: THE BUCKS FOR DUCKS SLEEP-IN IN HONOR OF MIKE PERRY HAS BEEN MOVED TO APRIL 18TH.

Just 25 dollars to give hope, get a pass to sleep in, and get a T-shirt honoring the inspiration for the Bucks For Ducks Fund, the late Mike Perry Click on "help out" in order to register. "I want to wear out, not rust out." -my beloved Papaw He did just that. He was a beyond wonderful man- a leader, giver, father, grandfather, friend. He inspired many, including me. And even in his darkest times, he never stopped giving, inspiring, loving. God used his life to help, inspire, and give to so many people. When asked if he ever asked if he ever thought "Why me?" he replied, "Why not me?" He saw it as a blessing- as a way to be a light to others. Cancer did not win this battle. His legacy lives on and will continue to do so. I love you so much, Papaw. Your little buddy will miss you dearly. In honor of the late Mike Perry, The Bucks For Ducks Fund Sleep-In shirt design has been changed. The event will now be in his memory. The shirt now has a picture of Mike Perry at the very first Bucks For Ducks event- The Bucks For Ducks Community night. Thank you to all of those who have given kind words, prayers, and encouragement. It means a lot and the family greatly appreciates all of your love. God Bless, Ginny Blake "But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words. "
-1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 I am a distinguished finalist for the Spirit of the Prudential Awards! I am so very honored and thankful. I will be awarded a certificate and a bronze medallion for my community service and creation of Bucks For Ducks Fund for the Tristate. Crazy to think just this past spring Bucks For Ducks Fund was just an idea, and now it is a charity!
I'm very thankful to have been selected and am so excited to see how Bucks For Ducks fund continues to grow. God can use anyone to do His work and further His kingdom- even a little, small-town girl. It's an amazing feeling to be part of something bigger than I can see.I was awarded the President's Volunteer Service Award! I'm so honored and thankful. Thank you once again to everyone who has helped make The Bucks For Ducks Fund possible. |
